Walk on the Wild Side

Top: Forever 21
Vest: TJ Maxx (Me Jane)
Jeans: James Jeans
Booties: Alloy (SO OLD)
Earrings: Bibjewelry
Bracelet: Bibjewelry
Ring: Baublebar
Wallet: LV

I've been searching high and low for a fur vest that didn't make me look a complete toolshed. After checking shopping establishment I came across (and I came across probably all of them since I have a shopping problem and the number of online retailers is virtually infinite) I finally found the vest at my soulmate establishment -- TJ Maxx. In the juniors department of course.

Paired with this fun floral blouse (which unfortunately I can't find online but just purchased!) and my most intense booties (circa 2009) I thought I'd try an outfit that was a little outside my comfort zone.

Stay tuned to see this furry little thang styled many ways over the next few weeks. I'm proud of myself for trying the trend! Any trends you're itching to try but aren't totally sure of?

Day to Play with Dagne Dover

Blazer: H&M
Top: TJ Maxx
Skirt: Vintage (my godmother's!)
Heels: Steve Madden
Flats: Tory Burch
Tote: ℅ Dagne Dover
Earrings: Bibjewelry

My last "day to play" post got great feedback, so I thought I would do another!

I found this Dagne Dover bag and it took my transitioning game to a whole new level. The bag itself is fully optimized to neatly carry all the things you need for work while still looking fabulous enough to join you at the bar after (a severe step up from my usual nylon workbag).

My favorite part about the bag is the compartment designed to hold my shoes a water bottle. But seriously, what a convenient way to tote my switch out flats without them touching everything else in my bag. Plus, my iPad slips in and out easily while the coated canvas material can stand up to a lot which is a must as I get ready for commuting through the Boston winter.

I paired more of my fall palette favorites -- houndstooth and oxblood -- with a classic beige blazer, black tights, and leopard pumps for a more profresh day look (subbing out Tory flats when needed, obvi.) and ditched the blazer and untucked the blouse for a look suitable for Wednesday vino. Easy peasy!

Pattern Pairings

Top: TJ Maxx
Vest: TJ Maxx
Skirt: Nordstrom
Shoes: Necessary Clothing ($20!!)
Bag: Aldo
Watch: Michael Kors
Bracelet: Bibjewelry
Sunnies: Rayban

I wanted to experiment with this post combining everyday fall patterns with a few dressier details in a way that I normally wouldn't.

On top, I'm wearing one of my favorite purchases of the season so far -- this buffalo print vest. Scored this from TJ Maxx and while I can't find the exact version online, TJ Maxx has another one that's very similar. Also, this cute flannel was a TJ's find as well. I wanted to play around with combining these two patterns that I find myself wearing non stop through the fall also -- normally, I would wear them separately.

On the bottom I've got my favorite skater skirt accented with black tights to transition into a cooler season paired with my favorite gold toe pumps. A neutral bag with a solid shape really ties the look together.

Finally, I'm loving my new Spike bracelet from Bibjewelry -- especially since it was only $6 (SIX DOLLARS!!!)

What do you think of the combination? Love it or lose it?

Free Fallin'

Top: Target
Denim: Vigoss (old)
Shoes: Steve Madden (old)
Scarf: Gift (from a small boutique)
Sunnies: Karen Walker

Fall calls for one of my favorite color palettes -- warm neutrals -- like olive, tan, beige, oxblood, and as always, dark denim.

This basic layering shirt from Target was such a great find and I'm glad I went back and stocked up in several colors. Pairing it with my favorite distressed denim and a nude heel, I was feeling pretty fallish.

I finished the look with my favorite Louis Vuitton (one of my first "I'm a grown up now" purchases a few years ago) and this beautiful elephant scarf I received as a birthday gift from one of my best friends.   I have an obsession with elephants so this scarf is a regular in my fall wardrobe.

Scarves, dark denim, and a looser top are my favorite fall staples -- so  many good combos, not enough fall season!

Day to Play

Top: Target
Vest: 41 Hawthorn via Stitchfix (last season)
Necklace: Baublebar
Sunnies: Rayban

Wanted to try something new on with today's post. If you like it, let me know and I can make it a more regular feature! The idea is an outfit you can take from "Day" to "Play".

I'm fortunate to be able to dress pretty casually for work depending on the day and meetings with clients, but even still sometimes when work rolls right into evening plans, I wish I had a better look for a night out.

So here are my secrets to seamlessly switching things up:

1. Carry a large handbag (it holds your shoes)

2. Change your shoes (you know, the ones in your large handbag)

3. Remove a layer and/or add an accessory

Boom. Done.

For day, I'm jazzing up my basic black look with some Tory Revas and this herringbone vest I scored from Stitchfix this winter. Side note -- if you haven't heard of Stitchfix, you're missing out. Check it out here. When it's time for city cocktails with a girlfriend, I switch out the flats for pumps, lose the vest, and add a simple necklace to dress the look up a bit. Easy, breezy, pass me a martini.

What do you think?

Sk8ter Skirt

Skirt: Nordstrom
Top: TJ Maxx (old)
Shoes: Coach

I can't get enough of this skater skirt I scooped up from Nordstrom during the anniversary sale this summer. It's a perfect transition piece -- the material is well suited for cooler weather while the length and style give you some flexibility to style for summer.

I've been experimenting with different pieces to pair with this skirt (very excited to start wearing it with black tights) and I love how it looks with this sheer, neutral blouse. This was also a perfect excuse to wear my amazing Coach pumps I found at TJ Maxx a few weeks ago. I can't get enough of this bow detail -- obsessed.

The shoes and skirt are the statement pieces that do all the talking for this sort of simple look. I'm so excited skater skirts are in at the moment because they are super flattering to my shorter frame - the flared skirt falls short making your legs look miles long, something that's not easy to accomplish with my 5'2 frame!

Monday Blues

Top: TJ Maxx
Skirt: H&M (old)
Belt: H&M (old)
Shoes: Kohl's (old)
Necklace: J. Crew Factory

Another Monday after another [not nearly long enough] weekend. I was inspired by the start of the work week to post a professional outfit -- with some super fun, not quite as professional shoes.

These blue suede beauties make this outfit pop, but I'd swap them out for a lower heel and less platform for a board meeting and throw them on for 5 o'clock happy hour instead. However, I think the color is totally appropriate -- check out these office safe options: Splurge / Save

A pencil skirt and heels is one of my favorite classic looks -- it's super feminine and flattering but also has that "I'm a boss lady" air to it as well. This is an oldie but goodie from H&M, one of my favorite places to scoop up work basics to stay current without spending a fortune.

Also, this top was only $10 on clearance at TJ Maxx -- it was easily a no brainer.

Happy Monday! Hope you have a fabulous week!
